Ember at the Turning Edge
by Margo Myers
I like painting water – often in the abstract. (Yes, Pisces here). It’s a calm, simple scene with a soft horizon where the sky and water almost blend together. Most of the colors are blues and warm neutrals, and then there’s this small red orange glow sitting right on the horizon — the “ember” — that gives the whole painting a focal point. I like orange and thought it would set off the other colors. The light feels like it’s right in the middle of changing, which gives the piece that in between, shifting quality. It’s peaceful, but I like to think there’s a little bit of mystery in the way the colors fade into each other.
